Hypocrisy reigns

I have made numerous comments about the potential problems that will inevitably result from the aggressive gambling adverts associated with televised football.  The gambling laws and rules for betting shops ‘protect’ under 18s from exposure to the temptations of gambling – presumably because the age group is seen as vulnerable?  MPs are currently expressing concern about gaming machines installed in betting shops.  The machines generate considerable profit – at someone’s considerable cost – very quickly.

The potential problems posed by gambling are obviously well recognised.  Why, then, is gambling allowed to be promoted to audiences that comprise so many – well below the age of 18?  Money, of course.  Hypocrisy thrives and is well endowed.  Part of our democratic, capitalist, free society.  Free? – Don’t get me started!
